Biography

Dr. Jón Egilsson is the co-founder and former chair of Monerium, the first globally regulated institution to issue fiat currency directly on public blockchains as stablecoins. He pioneered Monerium’s licensing and market launch, establishing the company as the market leader in on-chain euro settlement. Mr. Egilsson holds a PhD in economics, where his research focused on monetary policy and its sometimes unintended transmission mechanisms. A former chair of the Supervisory Board of the Central Bank of Iceland, he is an Executive Fellow at King’s College London and a former visiting scholar at Columbia University.

He is a Forbes contributor with op-eds in Coindesk and Euronews, writing on stablecoins, CBDCs, monetary policy, and digital financial infrastructure. His latest 2025 research on tokenized credit and monetary dynamics was presented at Oxford Saïd Business School.
