About Banca d’Italia:
Banca d'Italia is the central bank of the Republic of Italy and operates under both national and European legislation. It is an integral part of the Eurosystem, which comprises the national central banks of the euro area and the European Central Bank (ECB). Its mission is to pursue objectives of public interest in the monetary and financial sectors, including maintaining price stability and ensuring the stability of the financial system. In Europe, Banca d'Italia serves as national authority within the framework of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) and the Single Resolution Mechanism (SRM). In order to deal with challenges and benefits stemming from technological innovation, Banca d'Italia has adopted a strategy aimed at supporting financial institutions and market operators and at promoting sound and responsible innovation. In this context, Banca d'Italia has established three innovation facilitators: Fintech Channel, Milano Hub, and Regulatory Sandbox. Since January 2020, Banca d’Italia has been working alongside the ECB and the national central banks of the euro area on a series of initiatives exploring the potential introduction of a digital euro.
