Since March 2015, Werner is responsible for the company’s consumer and corporate businesses, as well as merchant acquiring across Continental Europe.
Werner joined American Express Bank in 1999 as Vice President Consumer Financial Services. He was promoted to General Manager of American Express Bank in 2002 and was appointed Country Manager of American Express Germany & Austria in June 2005. He also headed the supervisory board of AMEX Bank Austria Ltd since 2008 and became Director of AESEL UK in May 2009.
In November 2011, Werner joined GMS as Senior Vice President & General Manager of Merchant Services Europe and has been appointed Director of AEPSL in February 2012.
Before joining Amex he worked as Marketing Manager for Banco Santander and VISA Card Services, and as Director Marketing at Quelle Bank.
Werner holds a degree in Business Administration with a focus on Marketing and Banking from the University of Mannheim.
He is an active member of the board of trustees of “Deutsche Sporthilfe”, supporting over 4,000 athletes in Germany, as well as of the Wirtschaftsbeirat, an independent professional association of entrepreneurs.
Werner is married and has two sons and is residing in London. His hobbies are tennis and skiing.
