Scott Dueweke formed Zebryx Consulting in 2015 to provide public and private sector clients an understanding of identities and alternative payment systems, both risks and rewards. He is an expert on identity and anonymous payments on the Internet, and regularly advises senior leadership within financial institutions and the U.S. government. He had previously provided similar services for Agilex and from 2006-2014 with Booz Allen Hamilton.
Mr. Dueweke has been a leader in ecommerce and online payments since presenting on “Credit Card Security and the Internet” at the first Internet World conference in 1994. Working with innovators such as Dell, Netscape and Microsoft, he supported early ecommerce payments during the Internet’s commercial emergence. Subsequently, he led marketing for IBM’s Internet Payments group, supporting the company’s payment, eWallet and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) solutions globally. At Merchant Online, he led the development of early peer-to-peer (P2P) and other non-traditional payment systems. During his tenure with ConcordEFS/First Data, he implemented the first eTax payments portal for the IRS and also developed identity authentication systems for the financial services industry.
Identity has been a consistent thread throughout his career and Mr. Dueweke has presented at dozens of major conferences on biometrics and converged identity, including the twice at ID World Milan, ID World Abu Dhabi, the FBI’s Facial Recognition symposium and the Biometrics Consortium Conference. At Booz Allen he led a 56-person team of engineers focused on converged access control and set up a lab incorporating biometrics, physical, and logical access control devices exhibiting the value of converged identity management. He has also established expertise on the role and attendant privacy risks of big data on identity.
He began his career with the U.S. Agency for International Development, where Mr. Dueweke participated in the Armenian earthquake and Hurricane Gilbert responses. He also cofounded Freedom Flight International in the mid-1990s. Working with the U.S. Coast Guard, this humanitarian group flew private aircraft over the Florida Straits to assist the rescue of Cuban rafters. The organization was profiled in the book “Dying to Get Here: A Story of Coming to America”.
Mr. Dueweke has also worked with global law enforcement including the FBI, Department of State, USAID, INTERPOL, EUROPOL, and the Icelandic Police Force. He spoke on behalf of the DEA at the International Drug Enforcement Conference general session before representatives from over 100 countries. The media, including the Wall Street Journal, Time and Forbes, quotes him frequently on the topic as well.
